home sweet home

Ugh, I was back in Switzerland. Everything seemed to be the same as almost half a year ago. Good old Switzerland appeared to have become a bit smaller though but I’ll get used to that soon. Thanks to my mother my apartment was nicely cleaned and ok, except for a minor water damage due to the recent heavy rain falls and a probable construction error in the balcony.

First thing I did was to prepare my coffee machine to have a nice cup of espresso. Instant coffee time was over! While I cleaned the machine I had a glass of tap water… wonderful, no more fetching water in the next well and boiling it before drinking.

After having finished my espresso I unpacked my suitcase to clean all the laundry. Then I went to the shopping center to buy some food. My fridge was usually full after shopping but not this time. There was still plenty of space left after I had put all the stuff in the fridge. I can buy more stuff whenever I want, not like in Uganda.

Ok, what next? My computer reminded me of having to do updates urgently since I arrived in Uganda. But it was simply impossible to update without any decent Internet connection. After 5 months I had to download at least 3 GB of updates for my operating system, iTunes, iPhone, antivirus let alone the 62 App updates on my iPhone and iPad. Speaking of iPhone… about a week before I flew home my WI-FI module went down the pan so my iPhone became pretty useless in Africa. I ordered a new one, a 5s, knowing that iPhone 6 will be launched very soon.

The next day I hung up a traditional painting on birch bark which I bought in a shop at the kings tombs in Kampala directly from the artist. I also bought some other memorabilia for myself and for my family and friends. I hung the ones I bought for me on a wall and prepared the other to give away.

Then I unpacked my solar panels and realised how bleached they were after these 5 months. They worked absolutely fine but they’re not colorfast at all.

They day before I skipped it but that day I had to go to the gym. I didn’t work our for  months and had lost a few kg of muscles but gained a bit of weight around my belly. I did an easy workout as my joints, tendons, bones, muscles and the nervous system needs to get used to do all the weight lifting and running etc. I tell you, it’s been so many years when I had my last full body muscle sourness. I’ll have to go easy in the next days and weeks but I’ll get in shape again. Anyways, I went for a hike the other day which was a bit hard but still very enjoyable.

What’s left to do? Well, eventually I’ll have to find me a new job… but first I’ll help prepare a holiday camp for pupils. After practising a lot at the Eco-Farm I should manage to install a few tents and build some wooden constructions…
