Yesterday I went to a hospital with Charles for treatment of his finger. As there was no doctor available we had to go back home. I wanted to ask Claudia to lend me her car to go to another hospital in Masindi with Charles. She refused as she gave one of her workmates a leave and didn’t want Charles to be away the whole day. She told him to go to a private clinic next town which we did next day. I accompanied him one more time, so we took off again in the morning, right after Charles had fetched water. We again walked to the village, again got a Boda Boda and then again set off to Bweyale. The clinic looked a lot nicer from the outside and was painted in – uhm – pistachio green or something like that. There were again a few people queuing but a lot less than in the hospital the day before. We waited for probably half an hour before Charles got to see the doctor who examined his finger thoroughly, later put a bandage on it and wrote a few lines on a piece of paper. Then Charles had to go and pay at the teller’s and got some pills he would have to take for the next couple of days. After a week he would have to go back and show the finger again. As Claudia asked us to buy some stuff in town we then went shopping and rode back home sitting in the back of a shared Boda Boda with the shopping bags in both of our hands. We wouldn’t have gotten far like that in Switzerland… but this is Africa!
costs so far:
30’000 UGS transport
11’000 UGS treatment
40’000 UGS total (~16 US$)
I still hope his finger will be ok…
