After a late breakfast we said good bye to Claudia, John and Fortune and left Lira. Our next destination was Sipi where the famous Sipi Falls are. It was an easy drive and we only stopped for lunch. In the afternoon we arrived at the Sipi River Lodge which proved a very cosy and relaxing place to stay, especially as the last nights in the cities were not so calm. We were welcomed by a beautiful blue bird (which name I don’t remember currently) who was told to hang around there all the tame. We’ve even watched him play with the lodge’s owner’s dog. The room was overwhelming and had a fantastic view to the Sipi Falls, even from the shower or the bed. This is a place where one can really relax for a while. Anyways, after the check-in formalities we went for a short hike to the very Sipi Fall that was seen from the lodge. As it must have rained during the day the paths were a bit slippery. The guide had handed us some walking sticks so we didn’t lose grip. The area was quite green and pleasantly cool and the plants were amazing, with lots of coffee plants, banana trees, mahogany and eucalyptus trees. The latter, who were introduced by the Indians for their wood, became a bit of a problem in Uganda as they consume a lot of water and thus are taking away the water from other plants. As in other regions of Uganda these trees will most likely be removed sooner or later. We soon reached the waterfall. There was a cave behind it so we could watch the waterfall from behind. What a nice place, must be perfect for a pick-nick! On the way back to the lodge we met a local guy who brought a chameleon he wanted to show us which is a method to earn a few Shillings over here. As the weather was not that great we postponed hiking to the other Sipi Falls to the next morning, took a shower, relaxed a bit, went for supper and to bed… with the thundering falls in the background… fantastic…
