Sipi Falls II and travel to Jinja - source of the Nile

The weather was a lot better this morning and so we enjoyed a very nice breakfast even with muesli at the lodge after which we checked out and met with our guide to hike the other two Sipi falls. We started at the lodge and first meandered through the village until we saw the lower Sipi fall and enjoyed a fantastic view of the valley. We then had to hike to the bottom of the waterfall. The paths were even more slippery this time but we had our walking sticks that helped a bit. At some point we had to climb a very trustworthy, steep ladder. The waterfalls was a lot bigger than the one we saw yesterday and when we reached the bottom, we got immediately soaked from the spray and I had to stop taking pictures as it was just too wet. After a while we hiked back, this time we had to climb up which was a bit strenuous as I was a bit out of shape after almost five months without any workout. Back at the lodge we entered the car to drive to the upper Sipi Falls. We then decided to just driving by and not to hiking there as it was already late in the morning and we had another long drive ahead. A scenic drive lead us out of the valley towards Jinja, right at Lake Victoria.

When we reached Jinja we had lunch right at the lake as Nelson had booked a boat trip to the Source of the Nile. After lunch we met our guide who steered our boat there. It was quite a nice trip but the guide’s main intention was to earn money so he first made clear that he didn’t get any payment and was thus depending on us giving him some money according to how good we thought he guided us. We later stopped at a very small island where he made us hop over some stones in the water to enter a crafts shop. He also wanted us to visit some place where one could see snakes but we refused to do this. Besides that the boat trip was quite nice and he did a good job informing us about the places and the wildlife. The highlight of the trip was the source of the Nile, a spot in the middle of Lake Victoria where the water seems to pour out of the ground. Back at the harbour Nelson was pretty furious. The Source of the Nile hotel had cancelled our booking as there were some military staff around who they checked in instead. Nelson was so furious as he booked the room weeks ago and confirmed the booking twice. We still drove to the hotel as he wanted the manager to explain the situation and find a solution for the problem. They found some other room in a hotel nearby which was totally fine by me. So we checked in at this place. Nelson’s mood became better when he realised that the hotel was ok. Shower, supper, bedtime…

Wow, what a view! – Oh, we have to hike down there? – No problem, I’m Swiss…
