construction work – duck house

We recently bought another two ducks for the Eco Farm, just at the time when our female started to lay eggs. So we now have four ducks who live in a nice home just behind the main building. Problem is that the new female seems to be a bit bossy, complimenting the other ducks out of the duck house in the night. On top of that we will soon have a lot of small ducklings as the new female is also soon going to lay eggs, so we might have up to 20 young ducks very soon. Therefore we decided to have bigger duck house built that would fit all of them.

We also needed some other construction work to be done so we contacted Simon, the local builder without competition. He had already built the main house, the cottages and some of the green houses… whoops… I wonder how that duck house is going to be like…

Claudia explained where and how the new house should be built. Charles then prepared the location so that the building workers could do their job. They dug some holes, put in poles and filled the holes up with cement. Then they started to lay bricks. The next day they switched to the other building site on the farm so the brick wall could dry a little. Then they roofed the house. Done – Uhm, but somehow that house looks a bit too draughty. After a short discussion with Simon we agreed on working over the house in a week or so…

Building a new duck house – Check… almost…

our four ducks – the black and the white are the males, the multy-coloured the femalesIMG_1698

this is their current home – enough room for all four of them but the new female occupies it

the area will be big enough to fit up 40 ducks and some rabbits (we plan to have some in the future)IMG_1703

this is where the new house will be built, behind the old one, just where the entrance isIMG_1697

this is Simon the builder who’s examining his own brick work… I don’t know why he’s wearing a furred cap, it’s already over 30 °C…IMG_1719

so far, so good…IMG_1721

looks a bit draughty… Another thing that Simon will have to work over…IMG_1741
