rain storm – more construction work to come…

Just at the day when the construction work in the pig house should have started it rained heavily for the first time. Unfortunately it was also very windy during what lead to a trail of devastation in the green houses. As we live in a poor country it’s hard to get good quality material here. Who could afford to buy good stuff anyway? So most things you can buy are a bit or even pretty crappy. Our green houses were mostly built of crappy material. The battens were not dried before they sold them so they react a lot on changes of temperature or humidity. Then this white and orange plastic tissue, the tampolin, which was used to cover the roofs and the sides, is really very weak and not build to last at all. You can easily press your index finger through it. But by now, this is the only material we found so far, that let at least some light through. Then I have to admit that the construction work was also done in a poor quality. Pieces of battens were nailed together, the lengths differ drastically, so some battens are too short and some are way too long, then the tampolin was stretched over some edges at some points so it would tear apart. Then there are lots of sharp-edged slings of wire everywhere and nails that had been hammered through the woods so that their ends would come out of the woods on the other side which will likely lead to hurting yourself when touching any of them. Oh, I almost forgot the thin tin roof channels that collect rain water that might cut your fingers eventually when touching it… Anyway, if you consider all these facts you might not wonder why the greenhouses looked like this after the rain storm…

We’ll have to to a lot of maintenance very urgently, before the rain season really starts. But still I wonder how these houses are going to survive the rain season…

some battens were simply ripped off or twisted heavily

some battens even broke to pieces

I had found these battens about 8 meters away from the greenhouse in the field

some of the tampolin was torn apart and wiped away
