We ran out of food again. After a couple of hard working days and a last lean supper I was really hungry the next day. I was doing some maintenance work at the farm when Claudia tried to prepare some kind of pancakes with the last few eggs, water and flour. Our last bit of food. The eggs were very small and contained almost no egg yolk. So when Claudia tried to make the first pancake it would not really bind and didn’t look like a pancake at all. She gave it to the dog who was starving too. My stomach started to rumble… I told her to add some more flour but she would just try again… same result… another one for the dog… “This is got to end now!”, I said to myself, “or Moritz would finally get to eat all that stuff”. This time I insisted on adding more flour and soon got my first pancake. It did not have much of a taste but it was at least warm. I then wanted to put some sugar and cinnamon on it, but we didn’t have any more sugar… Ok, cinnamon it shall be… Still no taste… Then I crumbled some cookies over the pancake that I had bought a while ago and added more cinnamon and wrapped it. That was much better but it was odd to eat as the crumbs were pretty dusty. I wanted to bake one last nice pancake that tasted and looked nice. “We need more heat”, I thought to myself, and added some charcoal to raise the temperature of the grill. Then I crumbled a few cookies directly into the egg/water/flour mass and added cinnamon. “Let that last one be really good!”, I then pleaded. Well, it looked nice and it also tasted nice, too! ”That’ll do until tonight”, I thought. In the afternoon we would get some nice supper as we had planned to drive to Masindi to buy things and to finally access the Internet which is almost impossible at the farm. NOT. Unfortunately, Barbara, our cook later sent a text message, saying that she would not come back to work at the farm. She should have stayed at the farm while we were away, so, again, we would have to change our plans as we cannot just leave the farm without anyone staying there. That’s how things are here… Well, I had my pancakes for today…
the first pancakes looked a bit strange, so Claudia gave them to Moritz, our dog
after I added some more flour, the pancake looked ok, but had no taste, so I crumbled a cookie over it and added some cinnamon… ok, but funny to eat…
for the last one I’ve crumbled my last cookies into the dough and added cinnamon – Yummie!
