In times of heavy rain – especially during the rain season – a lot of water runs down the street and into the entrance of the Eco-Farm where it – additionally to the water that falls directly on the farm’s ground - washes away the paths and sometimes even the soil of the beds and patches.
After the first heavy rain we had to repair the paths by pouring gravel on the paths which then needed to be stamped manually. In order to prevent the water from the street from entering our land we also built an embankment with some broken bricks, soil and gravel and again a lot of stamping on it. To test it, we drove over it with our car. It was stable enough. Today we even had visitors who came with a big 4WD, still no problem. Later it even rained and the embankment did it’s job pretty well. Another check in the garden – looks ok, too!
We soon realized that there’s some spots where the water would pile up. We just reworked these areas with a bit of sand that we had left from other building activities.
That’ll do for now but I wonder how it’s going to look like when the heavy rain starts.
the washed-out paths needed to be filled-up with gravel
which then needed to be stamped manually, otherwise it’d be washed away very easily
not only make these paths the garden accessible when it rains but it also looks nice
then we also built an embankment to hinder the water running down the road from entering our area
today’s rain proved the embankment working properly
and even the garden looked pretty ok as there’s a lot less water running through it
When it rained, we realised that there were still some spots where the water would pile up so we additionally spread some sand
